Liverpool must act now or end up jealous of their bitter rivals Everton after the Toffees reportedly made Sporting Lisbon winger Gelson Martins a key target to sign this summer.

According to a report by The Telegraph the Toffees sporting director Marcel Brands has identified the dazzling winger as a key target to sign this summer as he is likely to be available due to the widespread unhappiness at the Portuguese giants.

The newspaper also stated that the Reds had expressed an interest in signing Martins, along with Arsenal and Tottenham, but face even more competition if he manages to free himself from his current contract.

However from a Reds’ perspective it would be awful if he ended up at Goodison Park more so then anywhere else as it would be painful to practically have a front row seat as he goes on to tear up the Premier League.

Martins’ sensational dribbling ability and knack for playing sublime passes would see him be a hit in England’s top-flight and with the Reds needing another attacking player, he would be a fantastic signing this summer.

The 23-year-old can play as a right-winger or secondary striker if required and would easily boost Jurgen Klopp’s chances of lifting silverware next season if he arrived.

Though it will be a similar situation for the Toffees as their chances of success would significantly be boosted if a player of Martins’ calibre was signed, not just because of his ability but due to the positive effect on morale it would have.

Martins is currently away at the World Cup with Portugal but that shouldn’t stop the Reds putting together a deal ready for him or his club to look at in order to help them win the race.

The Toffees are no doubt already making moves for Martins as they see him as a key target and the team who strikes first will have a clear advantage in the race for his signature.

Therefore the Reds must act now and do more than just express an interest in him or not only will they miss out on a great talent, they’ll end up jealous of the Toffees if they end up signing Martins instead.
