Mo Salah has signed a new long-term contract with Liverpool and, according to a reliable journalist, the contract contains no release clause.

The news was confirmed on the official Liverpool Twitter page on Monday morning.

Following the announcement, Paul Joyce from the Times claimed on his personal Twitter page that the contract contained no release clause.

The new deal comes just a year after he signed from Roma and had an incredible season, with 44 goals in 52 games.

Talking to the official Liverpool site, Jurgen Klopp said: “I think this news can be seen for what it is; rewarding a person who performed and contributed greatly for the team and the club last season.

“It demonstrates two things very clearly also – his belief in Liverpool and our belief in him.

“We want world-class talent to see they have a home at Anfield where they can fulfil all their professional dreams and ambitions – we are working hard together to achieve this.

“When someone like Mo Salah commits and says this place is my home now, it speaks very loudly I think.”

A further Tweet from journalist Melissa Reddy claimed there was no release clause in the deal.

OPINION

This is huge for Liverpool and fans will be absolutely thrilled that Salah has signed what is reported to be a new five-year deal with the club. Even better, the player hasn’t insisted on a release clause, which means Liverpool will be in complete control over his future. It doesn’t come as a massive surprise. Liverpool and Klopp have turned him into one of the world’s elite players and he obviously enjoyed his season at Anfield. It was probably the best debut season by any player at Liverpool and fans can now look forward to Salah as he tries to crack the tricky second season. Expectations will be so high and defences will be more aware of what he can do, but at his best he’s just unplayable. Klopp is right too, this sends out a huge message to the Premier League and the rest of the world – Liverpool can sign and hold onto world class players, and Klopp has now set his sights firmly on the Premier League title.
