Liverpool lost for the first time in pre-season as Borussia Dortmund fought back from a goal down to win 3-1 in the International Champions Trophy on Sunday evening, and some fans have taken to Twitter to react to Joel Matip’s latest injury troubles.
Virgil van Dijk gave the Reds the lead in the first-half with a powerful header but two goals from Christian Pulisic and a late winner from Jacob Larsen secured a comeback win for the Bundesliga giants.
It was a good run out for the Reds but they did suffer a damaging blow when centre-back Matip limped straight off with an injury having just returned from a lengthy lay-off.
Some fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the blow, with many calling for Jurgen Klopp to sign a new centre-back.

OPINION
This is a bitter blow for Matip and for the club, who would have been hoping he would step up to partner Virgil van Dijk this season. That still may happen, with the severity of the injury yet to be determined, but the Cameroon international is proving to be hugely injury prone, and this latest blow will inevitably lead to calls for the club to sign a new defender, as many fans have done here. These supporters seem resigned to the fact that Matip is not going to make it at Anfield, and while that is slightly premature, these mounting injuries do not help his case.
