COMMENTARY:
What a boost to Liverpool and their supporters on the day the club return to pre-season training. Salah won’t be back for a few weeks yet after Egypt’s World Cup programme, but the Merseyside giants’ commitment to him is a huge statement of intent. Naturally, Liverpool have not released contract details but widespread reports have stated the goal king has been handed a five-year deal worth £200,000-a-week that doubles the pay of the contract he signed when joining from Roma 12 months ago. There will be few quibbles from the Anfield faithful, who adore the brilliant forward after his remarkable debut campaign in which he scored 47 matches in all competitions and was only one match away from spearheading the club’s return to the top of Europe. Can Salah do a Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo and make his second campaign as good as his first? It will make fascinating viewing to find out.
