Reported Liverpool target Xherdan Shaqiri could not prevent Switzerland from crashing out of the World Cup after a 1-0 loss to Sweden in the last-16 on Tuesday, and some Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react to his display.
Shaqiri was a constant threat for the Swiss throughout the match but could not find a way past a dogged Swedish defence, with a deflected goal from Emil Forsberg being enough to settle the tie.
The 26-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to Anfield in recent weeks, with the Independent reporting that the Reds are set to confirm the signing after the World Cup.
Some Liverpool fans have now taken to Twitter to react to Shaqiri’s display against Sweden, with many seemingly excited by the prospect of signing the diminutive winger.

OPINION
It is clear to see that there are a lot of Reds fans getting excited about the possibility of seeing Shaqiri at Anfield, and who can blame them. The Swiss winger gave a good account of himself at the World Cup, and has always been slightly too good to be playing for a club like Stoke. The fee that is reportedly on the table is £12million, which is a huge bargain in today’s market, and this is a deal which makes perfect sense for the club. Shaqiri will not start for the Reds, but his presence on the bench will be a huge asset for Jurgen Klopp as he looks to add depth to his squad.
