Liverpool have made a £12million offer for Croatia’s World Cup star Domagoj Vida, according to Turkish journalist Turgay Demir.

Talking on A Spor radio, as quoted by the Liverpool Echo, Demir said: “Everton and Liverpool have made an offer for Vida. £12million has been proposed but Besiktas will not consider a bid below £18million.”

According to Turkish.Football, Besiktas will sell if the price is right.

OPINION

The 29-year-old Croatian enforcer has 62 caps for his country and could be set for an extended run in the 2018 World Cup finals, that might even see his stock rise. He played the full 120 minutes against Denmark in the 1-1 draw that Croatia eventually won on penalties. He also helped keep clean sheets in the first two games, with wins against Nigeria and Argentina. Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren was his partner in those three games and both are likely to see more action with Croatia looking to make a big move in the competition. They play the hosts in the quarter finals and should be favourites to progress if the Russia vs Croatia betting odds are to be believed. It would seem like an odd move though. Vida only moved to Besiktas in January, on a free transfer from Dynamo Kiev. It would represent a big, quick profit if Besiktas were to sell for £18million but he doesn’t seem to be the sort of player that Klopp is looking for, for the next step in his Liverpool revolution. He would be a great squad player, but after his World Cup exploits, he’s unlikely to want to play second fiddle to anyone next season.
