Liverpool are in talks with Aston Villa over the signing of Ben Woodburn, according to the Telegraph.

The outlet report that the Midlands club are in talks with the Reds over a loan deal for the 18-year-old.

The report claims that the young forward will not fly to the pre-season training camp in France on MOnday with a decision expected to be made on him before the end of the weekend.

Championship clubs Wigan Athletic and Sheffield United were also interested in the youngsters signature, but the Villans are now the favourites after making contact with the Merseyside club.

OPINION

It seems like Jurgen Klopp has made his mind up about the young Welsh forward. Despite impressing in the recent pre-season friendly win against Manchester United, Klopp has obviously decided that it would be best for the 18-year-old to get some regular football under his belt next season so he can come back and challenge for a spot in the first-team on his return. However, Villa Park has been a place that’s been rocked with controversy over the past two years, with failed promotion attempts and cash flow problems, it might not be the best place for a youngster to develop his talents. Furthermore, Villa boss Steve Bruce isn’t the most progressive manager in the world and won’t give Woodburn the same freedom that the German manager would. In saying that, a bit of discipline in the Welsh international’s game wouldn’t be a bad thing, but his attacking talents must be allowed to flourish. If not, the Midlands won’t be to be an ideal place for him.
