Liverpool attacker Rhian Brewster revealed that he did assess other options before committing his future to the club.

The 18-year-old forward was believed to be highly sought after ahead of penning a professional contract with the Reds as The Sun previously reported that Juventus, Paris St Germain, Arsenal, Tottenham, Barcelona and Monaco all had the youngster on their radars.

However Brewster opted to ignore the interest in him and sign a new long-term contract, as confirmed by the club’s official site, with Jurgen Klopp’s side in July.

“The boss has told me many times that he believes in me, that he rates my game and my attitude,” Brewster told Joe.co.uk, when asked why he signed a new five-year deal with the club.

“He has said there will be opportunities. I did assess other options, but right now, I think I’m good enough to push for a place around the first team.

“All I need is to get fully fit again and be given the chance to prove him right, prove myself right, contribute in the best way I can and make everyone proud.”

“I’m still young and I know I’m not going be in the starting 11 week in, week out, it’s unreasonable. I just want the minutes to show I can be a really good option for the manager and to help my growth as a Liverpool player. ”

OPINION

It seems Brewster is determined to make an impact on the Reds’ first-team next season but isn’t naive to think that it will be an easy task to accomplish. The speedy forward has a flourishing reputation in football after firing England’s U-17s to World Cup glory not that long ago and after being a prolific force in the Reds’ academy. The 18-year-old could be on course for a breakout season at the club if he finds himself with an opportunity as clearly he is chomping at the bit to prove his talents. Unfortunately for Brewster, as he stated in his interview with Joe, he is currently working his way back to being fully fit as he is currently sidelined through injury. The 18-year-old will be at a disadvantage when it comes to featuring in Jurgen Klopp’s plans in the near future as pre-season has no doubt influenced the German manager’s thinking. However aside from that downside, it is nice to hear Brewster address his future at the club as it seems he has the right attitude when it comes to planning for the best.
