Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray are on red alert after Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic rejected a loan return to Cardiff City, according to Turkish Football

The reliable news outlet report that Galatasaray would be prepared to offer the Serbia international first-team football and the chance to play in the Champions League in the coming season.

Turkish Football claim that Galatasaray have made a new central midfielder a top priority this summer, with Grujic’s representatives previously approaching them to offer the 22-year-old’s services.

OPINION

In all honesty it looked like a poor decision from Grujic to reject the advances of former club Cardiff, who were desperate to see him return after he helped them to promotion last season. Boss Neil Warnock claimed it was a contract issue which prevented the move going through, suggesting that Grujic is refusing to sign a new deal at Liverpool before heading out on loan. It is understandable that the young midfielder is hesitant to do so, but this will only serve to keep him on Merseyside for another six months at least. He will likely spend that six months rotting in the reserves, just as he did to start last season, and that is the worst possible move for his career. The 22-year-old needs to be playing as much as possible, and the chance to return to Cardiff where he made such a good impression looked a positive one. A move to Galatasaray would also be a decent move with the prospect of Champions League football, and Grujic must now accept Liverpool’s terms for him to go out on a temporary deal.
