Liverpool have announced that midfielder Herbie Kane has joined Doncaster Rovers on loan for the first half of the 2018/19 season.

As reported on the club’s official website, the 19-year-old academy player joins up with the League One outfit for the first few months of the campaign.

The Yorkshire side are set to kick off their season on Saturday with an away clash against Southend United at Roots Hall.

OPINION

A loan away looks to be a sensible option for Kane, who has been a regular for Neil Critchley’s Under-23 side for the past season or so. His numbers last term were relatively impressive for a central midfielder, with Kane netting four times and providing two assists in 22 games in all competitions. He particularly impressed in the UEFA Youth League, with the midfielder netting three goals in eight games as the Reds reached the quarter-finals before losing on penalties to Manchester City. Kane has obviously put in some good performances for the development team but does not look to be close to a first-team breakthrough just yet, so a temporary exit makes sense for all involved. Doncaster will obviously be looking to regain their Championship status this season, and hopefully Kane can help them towards that goal with some commanding performances in the middle of the park before January.
