Real Madrid attacker Marco Asensio has been filmed mocking Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius following a pre-season match against Manchester United, and many Reds fans have taken to Twitter to slam the Spain international.
The winger was caught calling out ‘Karius’ to United goalkeeper David de Gea, seemingly in reference to his poor performances at the World Cup for Spain.
Liverpool fans have now taken to Twitter to react to the incident, with many scathing in their criticism of Asensio, who was part of the Real Madrid side who beat them in the Champions League final last season.
Live 4 Liverpool have rounded up some of the best tweets:
Very unprofessional gesture from @marcoasensio10, and he should apologise if he considers himself as a professional player.

Too bad. He was one of the players I had not grown to despise until now. We will have a good time playing them with a full squad and a grudge to match. pic.twitter.com/0rrVQixPyz

He seems to be everything a true sports professional is not! There was a time I wanted him at #LFC. Surely not now, @marcoasensio10 does not seem to be a true sportsman!

OPINION
This is obviously a poor joke from Asensio, but much of the reaction on Twitter seems hugely over the top. Yes, Asensio shouldn’t have said it, but it is hardly an offensive quip from the Spanish winger. This is especially true in light of some of the abuse that Karius received from a large section of Liverpool fans following the Champions League final. The German stopper was subject to a torrent of horrible comments from Reds supporters despite him being one of their own players, and therefore this criticism of Asensio seems to be slightly contradictory and hypocritical. There are more important things to worry about with the season approaching, and focus should be directed towards that.
