Liverpool are in talks with Russian Premier League side CSKA Moscow about a season-long loan for midfield enforcer Marko Grujic, according to Championat

The reputable Russian outlet report that discussions have now entered an advanced stage, with the 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt] Serbia international interested in joining the Russian giants.

Championat claim that the deal would take the form of a year-long loan, but CSKA would not have the option of making the move permanent at the end of the season.

CSKA are set to compete in this season’s Champions League after finishing second in the table last season.

OPINION

A move to CSKA is one that seems to make sense for all involved. Grujic is highly unlikely to feature much at all for the Reds this season after the arrivals of Fabinho and Naby Keita, and it was a surprise when he decided against a loan return to Cardiff City before deadline day last week. However, with the European window still going until the end of the month, it was still expected that he would complete a temporary move away from the club this summer. CSKA is a big club who are set to compete once again in the Champions League, and that affords the young midfielder a huge chance to impress on the biggest stage in European football. Liverpool would be getting rid of Grujic from the wage bill for the season while also giving him the chance to return a better player with the ability to fight for a first-team spot.
