Liverpool ran out 2-0 winners against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park in the Premier League on Monday night, and many fans have taken to Twitter to rave about the display of centre-back Virgil van Dijk.

A first-half penalty from James Milner and an injury time strike from Sadio Mane handed Liverpool their second successive win to start the season, joining five other teams on six points.

Van Dijk put in a masterful performance at the back for the Reds, and many Liverpool fans on Twitter were blown away by his accomplished display.

OPINION

These Liverpool fans are quite clearly enamoured with van Dijk after another exemplary display from the Netherlands international, and it is easy to see why. It was such a brilliant all-round display from the enforcer, who marshalled the Reds defence with authority and poise. If van Dijk and Joe Gomez stay fit then Liverpool have a brilliant centre-back partnership there that could develop into something special in the next few years. What is now absolutely clear is that Liverpool did not overspend in shelling out £75million for van Dijk in January, with the centre-back looking to be worth every penny. The addition of Alisson in goal this summer should really help the Reds transform their defence into a force to be reckoned with, and should put them closer to that goal of winning a trophy this season. It has certainly been a promising start to the season for Jurgen Klopp and his team, and they will be looking to carry that into their clash with Brighton on Saturday.
