Brighton managed to pull off the most shocking result of the Premier League season so far with their 3-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday, and it is Liverpool who are next to face the Seagulls.
Brighton defender Leon Balogun has now provided some insight into Saturday’s clash as the Reds look to secure their third successive win to start the season.
As quoted by the Daily Mail, Balogun said: “Liverpool is going to be completely different. It is going to be a lot quicker and a lot more intense.”
These are some interesting words from the Nigerian international which provide huge encouragement for Jurgen Klopp and his squad so early in the season.
Apart from showing that opponents view the prospect of facing them as a far tougher one than United, their most bitter rivals, these comments illustrate something far more important.
The fact that Balogun believes their upcoming clash with the Reds is set to be far more intense than their victory over United shows that Klopp’s side are already in everyone’s heads.
The pace and ruthlessness of their play so far this season has put everyone on notice, and to turn heads so early in the season is a good sign going forward for the Reds.
Last season was a different story, with a shaky start costing Liverpool a chance at a title challenge, and laying down a marker this term was always going to be important.
Balogun’s comments make it very clear that the Reds have already done so, and that illustrates that the club are seen as a real contender already this time around in a significant early season victory for Klopp.
What they must do now is back that reputation up with wins, and should they be up there with City by Christmas, then that title challenge will be well and truly on.
