Croatian midfielders are renound for their excellent passing ability and it comes to no surprise that Chelsea and Manchester United have jumped onto high alert after Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic revealed that he wants to leave the Bernabeu – but Liverpool must also be in the hunt.

The Sun has reported that the two league rivals are competing to sign the Champions League winner, who haveĀ also claimed that he does not want to play under United boss Jose Mourinho.

In light of this news, Liverpool must jump on the bandwagon and swoop for the Croatian themselves now it does not seem likely that he will be moving to Old Trafford.

The Reds are more than capable of rivalling any bid that the Blues make for the central enforcer, which is evident in the fact that they have splashed a large amount of cash on a variety of talent this summer.

Now that United have reportedly been handed a blow in their pursuit of the 24-year-old, now could not be a better time to pounce for a player who could form an excellent partnership with fan favourite Jordan Henderson in the central midfield.

Henderson is infamous for his solid presence in the midfield and providing stable cover to the back four, a trait that he demonstrated for England in the World Cup this summer.

Partnered with the Croatian international, they would form a formidable link-up that would certainly be the envy of most top-level teams.

Croatian midfielders are also known for splitting up defences and there is no doubt that Kovacic would do the same if he were to join forces with Liverpool.

His technical ability would be fully exploited with the likes of Henderson playing alongside him – and boss Jurgen Klopp would be mad not to swoop for him after his claims about United and Mourinho.

They must now make their last swoop of this transfer window, and it must be Mateo Kovacic – in what would be a bitter blow to their close league rivals.
