Real Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has ripped into Jurgen Klopp and has mocked the Liverpool boss for his failure to win in major cup finals.

Ramos played a controversial role in the Champions League finals between the two clubs as it was his challenge which caused Egyptian star Mohamed Salah to go off injured in the first half.

The Madrid star was also caught up in a clash with Reds goalkeeper Loris Karius, moments before the German shot stopper committed a calamitous error for Real’s opening goal.

Klopp has contested seven major cup finals as a manager and has won just one of them – losing three in charge of Liverpool – which Ramos was keen to point out.

Ramos said, as quoted by the Mirror: “It’s not the first final he’s lost, [maybe] he wants to use that as an excuse for losing.

“Some of us have been operating at a very high level for many years, not sure he can say the same.”

OPINION

Ramos’ comments will not go down too well with Liverpool supporters but with Klopp continuing to build his squad with the additions of powerful midfielders, Naby Keita and Fabinho, the Reds should remain in contention for trophy success and soothing Klopp’s poor record in major finals. Ramos can be critical of Klopp when he has won almost every major trophy at club and international level over a glittering career but should be more respectful of one of the world’s top managers. Although there has been no end product in terms of cup titles, Klopp transformed Dortmund into a solid force in not just the Bundesliga but across Europe and is currently on a similar mission with Liverpool. When all fit, Klopp has one of the strongest front trios in Salah, Firmino and Mane as shown in last season’s Champions League when the attacking power was just too strong for even the best of European defences.
