Matt le Tissier hailed Liverpool’s Naby Keita as as the best summer transfer in the Premier League and believes he will be a hit at Anfield.

The Sky Sports pundit was torn between the Guinean international and Chelsea’s club record singing, Kepa Arrizabalaga, but opted for the midfielder as his number one pick.

The Reds triggered a release clause for 23-year-old Keita from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig last year and the central midfielder has been given the number eight shirt for next season, previously worn by Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Le Tissier said, as quoted by Sky Sports: “I’m going to go with Naby Keita.

“Liverpool are obviously under a bit of pressure to do something and, in Keita, they’ve got a player who is already very good but looks like he could really improve on his stats for last season and end up with double figures for goals and assists.”

OPINION

Keita is a signing that Liverpool have been made to wait for but fans can now get excited for the arrival of the promising prospect. The Guinean is an all-round midfielder who has the willingness to press opponents into losing possession and winning the ball for his side. With an ageing James Milner, the Reds have a young, fresh midfielder that will cover every blade of grass and more. Keita has been known to show poor discipline, which is alarming for supporters, as the midfielder received a red card on four occasions last term. If Liverpool are to get the best out of their major signing, Jurgen Klopp must sort out the issue immediately as the Reds cannot afford to have their star man missing for too many matches. On the other hand, he could be pivotal towards Liverpool putting an end to their seven-year wait for a major trophy and could improve even further with better players alongside him.
