Liverpool winger Bobby Adekanye has received a major boost in relation to the injury he sustained in the under-23s clash against Arsenal four days ago, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The regional newspaper reports that in the 4-0 thumping at the hands of the Gunners, the attacker was taken off after he injured his knee during the clash, and there was serious doubts about how long he could be on the sidelines for.

The 19-year-old ace now has a reason to be positive as the swelling in his knee is reported to have now decreased, meaning that the young ace has not suffered any damage to his ligaments.

Adekanye – who stands at 5ft 7in [Transfermarkt] – returned back to training on Tuesday.

OPINION

This report has poured some cold water over the previous doubts concerning Adekanye’s injury. There were obviously some serious fears about how long the youngster could have been out for after suffering an injury to his knee, but he has now experienced a timely boost. No player wants to experience a prolonged spell on the sidelines, but those fears now look to be a distant memory now the swelling has gone down in his knee. This news will also be a welcome boost to under-23s manager Neil Critchley – Adekanye has had a fine start to the season, and he would have been a serious loss to the team if he was out for a long time. Adekanye may need to take it easy, but he can now continue his good form as he meant to go on. He has the potential to be a great success with the Reds, and who knows – if he carries on scoring stunners like he did against the team’s Paris Saint-Germain counterparts in the 5-2 win in the UEFA Youth League, then a stint in the first team may be on the cards.
