Darren Bent shared that Liverpool’s EFL Cup exit courtesy of Chelsea could aid their quest to win the Premier League this season.

The 34-year-old suggested that Reds supporters wouldn’t be fazed by crashing out of the League Cup and they desired winning the league title ahead of the Champions League this season.

Bent shared that he knew for a fact Jurgen Klopp’s side had their eyes on the Premier League trophy this campaign even at the expense of the prestigious Champions League.

“Yeah potentially, I’m sure if you asked a lot of Liverpool fans, yeah the Champions League is nice but surely they’d want to win the Premier League,” said Bent on Sky Sports News (Friday September 28, 10:55am).

“I think as long as I can remember, three Champions League finals and they’ve won one and they’ve been so close on so many occasions to winning the Premier League that I think the fans, ultimately want that, even though the Champions League is the biggest tournament in the world.

“But for Liverpool, I know for a fact that they’d want to win the Premier League.”

OPINION

Bent is probably spot-on with his assessment of what Liverpool fans desire and is probably accurate that the Premier League is the priority this season. However Reds fans are allowed to be greedy and have their eyes on multiple prizes as they’re aware that Klopp has a squad capable of competing on multiple fronts. While it’s probably obvious that the Reds want to win the Premier League, Bent comments make it clear that he thinks it’s the most important trophy on the Merseyside giants’ radar. Given that the fallout from the Reds’ 2-1 defeat to the Blues which ended their EFL Cup journey before it really got under way, has been minimal than Bent is right to play the fact there are not any negative vibes regarding Wednesday’s result. Hopefully for the Reds’ sake they’re able to instantly get revenge on the Blues on Saturday when the pair face-off in the league at Stamford Bridge.
