Stan Collymore claimed that Liverpool finally had the defensive abilities to challenge for the Premier League title this season after watching the Reds beat Tottenham 2-1 on Saturday.

The outspoken pundit shared via his personal Twitter  that the Reds were superb against Spurs at Wembley in their latest outing and that he wouldn’t be surprised if they beat a team by six of seven goals this season.

Collymore added that the biggest difference to this Reds’ side, compared to past seasons, is that Jurgen Klopp’s current team look strong at the back.

OPINION

Collymore hits the nail on the head with his verdict on Liverpool’s display against Spurs as they were superb. The only downside to their performance is that they wasted several opportunities to make the victory more comfortable as Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane both wasted golden chances. Also the outspoken pundit’s view on the Reds’ current defensive qualities is also fair as they do look better at the back than before. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk look like the ideal central pairing and could easily rack up a few clean sheets this season if Klopp opts to stick with them. Dejan Lovren is due to return from injury in the near future and while he was first-choice last season, the German manager shouldn’t change a winning formula. Hopefully the Reds are able to keep marching on with their title bid as after winning their first five league matches of the season, they clearly are contenders for England’s top prize.
