Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has praised Daniel Sturridge after the striker scored a sensational equaliser in his team’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday.

The 29-year-old, on a reported £120,000-per-week at Anfield [Source: Spotrac], came off the bench to score a wonderful curled finish that ensured Liverpool came home from Stamford Bridge with a share of the spoils.

And Klopp was thrilled with his efforts: “It’s that tight sometimes,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “Three days ago he had a similar situation and hit the crossbar. He reminded nobody [of his talent] then, obviously!

“He’s a fantastic football player, he had a full pre-season and he’s in the best shape since I’ve known him. It’s as easy as that. It’s really cool, I’m really happy for him. He works hard, he’s just a good lad. The boys were all happy for him. He really is in a good moment,” he finished.

OPINION

Anyone who has seen Sturridge’s phenomenal strike against Chelsea, his second in three days, understands exactly why Klopp is so thrilled with his striker’s efforts. The England international has shown a terrific attitude throughout pre season and into the new campaign proper, never complaining about a lack of minutes or starting opportunities. Instead, he has strived to provide a high class alternative to the Reds’ sensational front three, and has looked to make the most of any chance he’s given. He certainly did that on Saturday. His equaliser against his former side was an early contender for goal of the season, and it’s unlikely the 29-year-old has ever scored a better effort than that. Sturridge finally seems to be fully fit and back to his best, and that’s such a big boost for Liverpool. Having strength in depth is key to a successful title challenge, and Sturridge has shown that he can be relied upon in the big moments for the Reds.
