Salgado: Salah only going to get better

Real Madrid legend Michel Salgado has claimed that Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah is only going to get better in the coming years.

The Egypt international enjoyed a stunning season on Merseyside last year and won the Puskas Award on Monday night for his strike against Everton last season.

However ex-Spain international Salgado feels there is still much for to come from the Anfield ace.

“It’s very difficult to find a player who can change a game every day and that’s the kind of character you get with Salah,” he told the Sun. “And he’s really happy now playing for Liverpool, because of the style of football they play right now.

“Mo is a contender for everything and is a guy who has more to show. You can feel when you train with him, that he is a different player. And he’s only 26. He is at the start of his peak. He can give more and be more important to Liverpool.”

OPINION

Salgado is right, but his words must make for frightening reading for Premier League defenders. The fact that Salah is only going to get better in the coming years is a scary thought, because he was damn near unplayable for the Reds last year anyway. Players are generally thought to enter their peak at about 27 or 28 so Salgado is right that the Egyptian is only just beginning his ascent to the top of world football. He still has room to improve, we’ve seen that with his somewhat slow start to this season, but he is going to be one the greatest players in the world for years to come, that much is clear. Whether he can reach the stratospheric level of the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi is unlikely, but he could emerge as the next dominant player after those two have finally hung up their boots.
