Sky Sports pundit Alex Scott heaped praise on Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri before Switzerland went on to lose 1-0 to England on Tuesday night.

The pundit – who made 140 appearances for England Women before retiring – believes that the Reds’ new signing has a great season ahead of him this year, and that he will make a massive difference to Jurgen Klopp’s side when he is selected to come off the bench.

The £100,000-a-week [Spotrac] star is yet to make a start for Liverpool in the Premier League, but Scott believes that he will still thrive despite not having had many minutes for the club.

“Yeah, what a talent,” she said on Sky Sports on Tuesday [as transcribed by the Express] when asked about the Swiss international.

“A great signing for Liverpool, even though he hasn’t had many minutes yet. But he’s going to make an impact off the bench for Liverpool.”

OPINION

Pundits seem to be queuing up to praise Shaqiri at the moment, as Scott’s praise comes after Steve Nicol raved about Shaqiri for his previous performance for Switzerland. However, she is right when she says that he will have an impact off the bench for Liverpool. Shaqiri may not be viewed as the best starter by Jurgen Klopp, but he looks like he is considered to be a player who can come off the bench to change games. Fortunately for Liverpool, they have not been in this situation yet, but he is a fantastic player to call upon if they are in need of someone to change things up a bit when luck is not on their side. Not much has been seen of him in the top flight yet, but Klopp will definitely sit up and take notice of his recent performances. Like she says, he is definitely a talent – but unfortunately for him, he has not had the desired impact just yet.
