Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was full of praise for ‘world class’ Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson after the Brazilian’s fine performance against Chelsea on Saturday.

The 6ft 3in shot-stopper [Source: Transfermarkt] was pivotal in the Reds earning a share of the spoils in the 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, making a crucial save from Eden Hazard after the Chelsea goalscorer was clear on goal after a quickly taken free kick.

And Sturridge, who netted Liverpool’s equaliser, was thrilled with his teammate’s efforts: “Top drawer,” he told the Liverpool Echo when asked about the Brazilian’s performance.

“He had a great game. He was unfortunate not to get a clean sheet but he’s a world-class goalkeeper, as is Si [Mignolet]. We’ve got some good young goalkeepers at the club too but he’s showing his qualities and it was just important to keep going.”

OPINION

Alisson showed exactly why Liverpool spent the money they did on him with an excellent performance against the Blues on Saturday. Although he could have done better with Hazard’s goal, he did get his fingertips to it after all, the Brazil international made it up for it with a number of key saves as the game wore on. It’s made such a difference to Liverpool to have a goalkeeper they can rely on, and you’re seeing the back four produce much more confident performances now they have a shot-stopper behind them that they feel reassured by. Mignolet is a terrific back-up for any club, but Alisson is different gravy in between the sticks. The former Roma man made a stunning save with his legs to prevent Hazard doubling Chelsea’s lead, showing that he can come out on top in one-on-one’s with the world’s best players. Since his mistake against Leicester Alisson has been faultless, and it’s good to see that he’s learned from that error. He’s going to have a fine career at Anfield, that’s for sure.
