Everton are circling Liverpool forward Divock Origi as they have made several tentative checks on the player’s availability, according to ESPN.

The broadcaster report that the Toffees are assessing their options upfront and while the Reds are aware of their local rivals interest in their attacker, there has been no contact between the two clubs.

ESPN report that the Reds sanctioned Origi’s permanent exit in the summer and that Wolves have even agreed a £22 million deal, plus add on, to sign him but the player turned down the move.

OPINION

Origi probably is kicking himself that he didn’t jump at the chance to join Wolves as it would have been a fantastic move for him. The forward, who can also dabble as a winger, earns £28,000-a-week at Anfield (Source: Spotrac), but hasn’t been part of any of Jurgen Klopp’s matchday squads so far. If Origi had joined Wolves in the summer then he perhaps would have tasted more action. As the Reds were keen to bin Origi from their books in the summer and he hasn’t featured this season, then surely they would snap off Everton’s hand if they came calling. While ESPN point out that a player hasn’t jumped between the local rivals since 2002 when Abel Xavier made the move across Stanley Park, there’s no reason to suggest the Reds wouldn’t consider dealing with Marco Silva’s side in order to ditch Origi. While ESPN point out that Wolves and Borussia Dortmund showed an interest in the summer, the Reds will surely just sell to the highest bidder even if that ends up being their rivals.
