Liverpool’s on loan midfielder Marko Grujic has confirmed that he is hoping to be back involved with Hertha Berlin next weekend.

Liverpool’s official website confirmed last month that the 22-year-old suffered ankle ligament injury while playing for the German side against Borussia Monchengladbach.

However, Grujic is optimistic about his return: “On the pitch and off the pitch, I’m happy here,” he told the Liverpool Echo. “I started well and then I got injured which was annoying but it’s part of the game.

“Now it’s better. I’m running again and next it’s ball exercises. Soon I will be back with the team and then it’s down to the coach when I will play some part in the matches. I hope it will be next weekend. I can’t wait for that moment when I can play again.”

OPINION

Grujic is showing a tremendous attitude, here. He was playing well for Hertha Berlin in the early stages of his loan spell so for him to suffer this injury must have been very disappointing. However he’s come back from it extremely quickly and is looking to be involved in the first team again as soon as possible. The Serbian enjoyed a terrific loan spell at Cardiff City last season so this next loan period was important as the next step up the ladder. He’s shown he can cut it in the Championship and this year was all about demonstrating that he has the quality to perform well on a week to week basis in a top European league. He was doing that with Hertha Berlin prior to his injury so hopefully he can pick up where he left off once he returns to the first team set up in the coming weeks.
