Charlie Nicholas predicted Liverpool to defeat Red Star Belgrade 4-0 when they host them at Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The Sky Sports pundit revealed that he thought the Serbian giants were a potentially awkward team for the Reds to face especially with them not firing on all cylinders.

Nicholas added that while he believes Red Star Belgrade can be considered an awkward side to face, he cannot see anything other than a comfortable win for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

“This is a nice head-to-head scenario for Liverpool,” wrote the pundit in his predictions for Sky Sports.

“These teams can be awkward and Liverpool have not been firing but it’s still been a great start to the league.

“Mohamed Salah got his goal at the weekend, which is important.

“Daniel Sturridge got a game and Fabinho got 20 minutes, so there’s competition for places there and I can’t see anything other than them winning comfortably.”

OPINION

While Nicholas may believe Red Star can cause Klopp’s side frustration by describing them as an awkward team, clearly he doesn’t think that will matter. The Sky pundit has boldly backed a comfortable victory for the Reds and even seems to suggest that maybe the German manager will mix his team up. Nicholas points out the competition for places and it will be interesting to see who Klopp plays. The Red manager appeared to rest some of his players against Huddersfield Town on Saturday with the likes of Daniel Sturridge and Adam Lallana getting a rare start, so he should be fielding a strong team following that. If the Reds are able to have a comfortable game against the Serbian side then some of the Reds’ attackers, who haven’t hit the back of the net recently, may be able to get in a confidence boosting performance. If that ends up being the case then it may be it will be a good night for the Reds on Wednesday for multiple reasons.
