Liverpool forward Sadio Mane is set to return to training today and could potentially feature in Wednesday’s Champions League clash against Red Star Belgrade, according to a reliable journalist.

Neil Jones – a Liverpool correspondent for Goal – revealed via his personal Twitter account that the key first teamer is returning to training today after injuring his hand.

The surgery that the ace underwent kept him out of the game against Huddersfield on Saturday, which the Reds went on to win 1-0.

OPINION

This news will no doubt be a massive boost for Liverpool and the rest of the team, who have missed his presence on the pitch hugely recently. His absence was definitely felt at the weekend, as Liverpool were certainly not at their best – and seeming as they have been struggling for goals this season, his return will undoubtedly be a welcome one. Liverpool are expected to win their Champions League clash against Red Star, but if they played like they did at Napoli, then they will expect the same fate in this match. However, now that Mane is back in contention, their attack looks incredibly bolstered. Mane’s combination with Mo Salah is exceptional, and if they can pick up where they left off, then the Reds will be guaranteed to secure this vital victory. Mane will no doubt return back to his usual self – and with Liverpool currently sitting second in their group, he will be needed more than ever if they are to avoid the bigger teams in the next round.
