Cardiff City captain Sean Morrison has described Liverpool’s front four of Xherdan Shaqiri, Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane as the best in Europe.

The 27-year-old is currently preparing to take on the Reds at Anfield this Saturday, and he’s clearly cognisant of the threat Jurgen Klopp’s side pose.

“It’s going to be a very difficult game,” he told Sky Sports. “Their strike force, for me, is the best in Europe. The front four players, you don’t get better than that.

“The style of play they have is one of the most exciting to watch in the world and it’s going to a very hard game don’t get me wrong, but we’re a tough bunch of lads, we’re hungry, none of us like to lose, we’re winners, so we’re going to go up there and give it our best.”

OPINION

It’s surprising to see Morrison come out with such fulsome praise just before his side takes on Liverpool. However, it’s good that he’s prepared for a stiff examination on Saturday. The Reds front three appear to be back to their best, with Salah, Firmino and Mane all on the scoresheet in the team’s 4-0 victory over Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Whether Morrison’s claim that Liverpool’s front three are the best in Europe is accurate or not is a matter of personal perspective, of course. Paris Saint-Germain have a terrific attacking trio of Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edison Cavani, while Barcelona’s partnership of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Ousmane Dembele remains elite. Liverpool obviously have a phenomenal front three, but whether you’d take them over those two trios is 50/50. Having Messi in your team clearly gives Barcelona’s front three the edge, but the Reds’ attack isn’t far behind.
