Champions League side Galatasaray have begun negotiations with Liverpool for the loan signing of out of favour forward Divock Origi, according to Fotospor.

The Turkish outlet claims that Fatih Terim’s side are already in talks with the Reds over Origi, with the Belgian having struggled to make an impact at Anfield in recent times.

The report states that Galatasaray originally wanted to sign the Belgium international on a permanent contract but have decided to settle for a loan deal due to financial fair play restrictions.

Origi has yet to feature in Jurgen Klopp’s match day squad this season, with the 90 minutes he recorded against Swansea’s Under-23s in September his only football this term.

OPINION

This seems like a deal that makes sense for all parties. Obviously Liverpool would prefer to get Origi off their books permanently rather than on another loan deal, but this sounds like the only real offer on the table at the moment. Negotiations have already begun so obviously Galatasaray are serious in their interest and Liverpool can now gauge how badly they want to sign Origi. If they really want the 23-year-old then it’s possible that the Reds would be able to put a permanent purchase clause in the loan contract. That would be the perfect scenario for the club because Galatasaray would then be obliged to sign the Belgian permanently at the end of his loan period. Origi is a talented player, he’s shown that on occasion on Merseyside, but he’s not quite good enough to crack the Liverpool first team. Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Daniel Sturridge are just too good for him to get a sniff, and so he should be looking for the exit door as a matter of urgency.
