Senegal’s national team doctor Abdourahmane Fedior has confirmed that Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane has injured his hand on international, but that the problem is not serious.

Reports this week suggested that the 26-year-old, on a reported £90,000-per-week at Anfield [Source: Spotrac], had suffered a broken thumb.

However it now looks as though he may just miss Senegal’s game against Sudan.

“Sadio injured his left hand during the first leg. He has had a scan and, although it isn’t too serious, he will miss [the Sudan] match,” said Fedior, as quoted by ESPN journalist Glenn Price via his personal Twitter account.

The news is a massive boost for Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp who would have been fearing the worst after Mane’s injury was revealed.

OPINION

This is terrific news for Liverpool fans everywhere. Mane has been a massive part of the club’s success over the last year or so and he started this season like a house on fire – although he has cooled off a bit of late. Still, Klopp would have been loath to lose the former Southampton man, but it sounds as if his absence for the Sudan fixture this evening is more of a precautionary measure than any indication of a really bad injury. Hand injuries are rarely fatal in terms of a loss of game time, so expect Mane to be back in Liverpool red in short order. Injuries on international duty are a club manager’s worst nightmare, so Fedior’s confirmation that the injury isn’t serious will be a load off Klopp’s mind. Hopefully the Senegal star is back to full fitness soon and back to his best as part of the club’s lethal front three.
