Paul Merson fired a warning at Liverpool over relying on pretty much the same players every week when predicting their clash with Huddersfield Town.

The Sky Sports pundit observed that due to Jurgen Klopp’s high tempo style of football then injuries to important players were always bound to happen.

“There are a few injury problems for Liverpool to deal with heading to Huddersfield,” wrote Merson on Sky Sports’ website.

“Jurgen Klopp gets his side playing at such a high tempo and they play pretty much the same team every week so they are always likely to pick up injuries.

“They have and it seems they have all come at the same time. However, I still think they’ll have too much for Huddersfield.

“If you are going to have injuries this is the perfect game to have them. You don’t want to be playing Manchester United or Chelsea away with an injury crisis.”

It’s hard to argue with Merson concern about the Reds’ suffering injuries as due to the exciting fast-paced style Klopp encourages then he is right to suggest injuries will follow.

The pundit is always spot-on to claim that the clash with Huddersfield is the perfect one, if there’s such a thing, to in with injury concerns as the Reds so called ‘back-up’ players should be good enough to get a victory still.

Given that the Reds are set to be in mid-week action on Wednesday in the Champions League against Red Star Belgrade then Klopp must immediately act to address Merson’s warning.

The German manager, despite seeing his injury woes not being bad as first thought following the international break, must still rest as many key players as he can for Saturday’s clash, in order not to risk unnecessary injuries.

The likes of Daniel Sturridge and Xherdan Shaqiri, who have both been sparingly used, have proven they can be relied upon and the duo could both cause the Terriers’ nightmares.

Therefore following Merson’s decision to rightly warn that injuries are likely to happen at Anfield, Klopp must swiftly act to nip the idea that should be a cause for concerns by showing off his squad’s strength in numbers.
