If there was one player who you could pick out as being one of Liverpool’s stand out players this season, it is centre-back Joe Gomez.

The 21-year-old has thrived alongside Virgil Van Dijk in the heart of the first team defence, albeit the couple of times when Jurgen Klopp selected him to play at right-back.

He has no doubt established himself as a firm fan favourite at Anfield because of his solid performances, and those fans will be more than delighted to know that the young ace is set to be rewarded with improved terms on his current contract.

According to the Liverpool Echo, Klopp has decided that Gomez’ development over the past year deserves to be recognised.

Planning to improve Gomez’ terms on his current contract is a smart move by Klopp, as it will no doubt deter any potential suitors in January.

Other clubs will surely be interested in his services, but now that Liverpool are set to offer him new reasons to stay, the chance of Gomez departing the club remains very slim indeed.

He is a talent to behold and the thought of him leaving would not be very welcomed by Reds’ supporters, so the fact that he is set to be offered new terms will leave them absolutely beaming from ear to ear.

It is easy to forget that Gomez is still so young – you would not have thought that he is only 21-years-old – due to the maturity he displays when he is on the pitch.

He is arguably one of the best centre-backs in the Premier League, and that is all down to him being alongside the likes of Van Dijk.

Nevertheless, Klopp will pull off a masterstroke by offering the 6ft 2in ace a new long-term contract – as it will all but guarantee that he will not be going anywhere anytime soon.
