Some fans on Twitter opted to destroy Liverpool defender Andy Robertson for his display for Scotland after their 2-1 defeat to Israel on Thursday.

The 24-year-old left-back received a lot of criticism from a section of Twitter, which saw supporters of multiple clubs deliver their verdict on his international display, and it didn’t make for kind reading if you were the Reds’ full-back.

One fan tweeted to question whether the same player who features for Liverpool every week was the one he was watching, while another claimed that the full-back was just making mistake after mistake.

OPINION

While it’s true Robertson didn’t have a great night for his country on Thursday, these fans are very harsh. It seems the first sign of a bad performance and they’re ready to bin the left-back from their team. However it’s worth noting that hardly anyone shone for Scotland during their clash with Israel. Alex Mcleish clearly didn’t get his tactics right on Thursday and one of the player’s to pay the price for that was the Liverpool defender. Robertson never looked comfortable during the game and wasn’t able to burst forward down the flank to aid his side’s cause. While Robertson did noticeably make a few more mistakes, as one fan tweeted, then he usually does in Liverpool shirt, the majority of these tweets seem very harsh. Hopefully the left-back gets back to his best upon return to Anfield and doesn’t let this recent bad display for his nation affect his confidence. Robertson is a key part of Jurgen Klopp’s plans this season and so far hasn’t let his side down when it counts.
