Liverpool duo Jordan Henderson and Joe Gomez are both fit to face Fulham at Anfield this weekend, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

Centre-back Gomez has been struggling with an Achilles injury and was left on the bench for the first half of Liverpool’s 2-0 loss to Red Star Belgrade in the Champions League on Tuesday.

However, Henderson did not crop up in the list of substitutes for the midweek clash, but he is expected to be in contention for the home fixture against struggling Fulham, as confirmed by Klopp [via Liverpool Echo journalist James Pearce’s personal Twitter account].

OPINION

The return of Henderson will be a major boost to Klopp following the display of the midfield on Tuesday, and he is bound to bring some new ideas to the table after the struggle a few days ago. Henderson has been nursing an injury for a while now, but the fact he is in contention to face Fulham will be music to the fan’s ears after a period of bad luck. Gomez did manage to play 45 minutes of the game against Red Star but there were fears afterwards that he was going to be absent for this fixture. That is the last thing Klopp would want at the moment, as Gomez provides a much-need sense of stability to the defence, so the fact he is able to play will also be a major boost. The Reds desperately need a win on Sunday – and with these two players available, that prospect looks more than likely.
