Liverpool will make a renewed attempt to sign Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio in the summer, according to OK Diario.

The Spanish publication claims that the Reds made an offer of £160million for the Spaniard in the summer but saw their bid turned down by Madrid.

The European giants viewed Asensio as a key part of their attempts to replace Cristiano Ronaldo, however the dip in his performances of late are concerning Santiago Solari’s side.

Jurgen Klopp is said to be a huge admirer of the player and the German will make a second attempt to bring in the 22-year-old at the end of the season.

OPINION

This would be some move for Liverpool, wouldn’t it? Asensio is one of the brightest up and coming talents in world football and he would surely excel at Anfield. Madrid still rate the player highly so it remains to be seen whether they would be willing to sell the youngster, but if the Reds succeed in bringing him in then they will be adding a world class operator to their already-impressive team. At 22 years of age there is still so much scope for Asensio to improve – and he’s not a bad player as it is. The strides he has made in the Spanish capital in recent times have been staggering, and he is now a key man for club and country. He hasn’t hit the same majestic heights so far this campaign, but this is likely just a minor dip in form for a tremendously talented footballer. It’s good to see Liverpool being linked with the hottest talents in the world, and Klopp should be doing everything he can to try and secure the Spaniard’s signature.
