Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has not been seen at the club since October due to a lingering calf injury, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that the Reds misfit has been out of action for a month since suffering the setback in training, explaining his recent absence from Melwood.

The 24-year-old is now said to be working on his comeback as he attempts to prove his fitness to interested buyers in the January transfer window.

Reds U-23’s boss Neil Critchley told the Echo: “Lazar has been back on the pitch running so hopefully he’s not too far away. We’re hopeful in the next week or two he’ll be back training with us.”

Well that clears up the mystery that absolutely no Liverpool fans were in a rush to solve. In all seriousness, though, Markovic’s injury is bad news for the club if it in any way prevents his sale in January. The Serbian desperately needs a move away from Anfield because it’s just not worked out for him under Jurgen Klopp. He’s embarked on a series of rather fruitless loans and, according to the Echo’s report, turned down a summer move to his most recent loan club Anderlecht. He must have had his reasons for rejecting the switch, but he must also realise that his time on Merseyside was up a long time ago. He needs to move on and so it’s imperative that he proves his fitness over the next month or so. He needs to hit the comeback trail hard in order to ensure that he gets a move away from the club in the winter transfer window. He’s never going to play any part under Klopp and so he needs to find regular football somewhere away from Liverpool. Let’s hope that happens in January.
