Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane is a doubt for the team’s Champions League clash with Paris Saint-Germain on Wednesday, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that the Senegal international is due to feature at a pre match press conference on Tuesday but could miss the trip altogether after being struck down by illness.

Jurgen Klopp will hold a final training session at Melwood on Tuesday morning, and Mane will be given every chance to prove his availability.

However, there is serious concern that he could miss the crunch tie, with PSG lying in third one point behind the Reds in group C.

OPINION

It would be a serious blow to Liverpool’s hopes of beating PSG if Mane did end up missing the game on Wednesday. The 26-year-old is a huge player for the club and is, of course, a member of the team’s fearsome front three. Bringing Daniel Sturridge in for the former Southampton man wouldn’t be a huge drop off in pure goalscoring ability, but it would be in regards to the fluidity with which the front three normally plays. Mane has been a huge part of the team’s success since joining so Klopp will be praying that he overcomes his illness sufficiently to play a part on Wednesday. PSG are, obviously, a tremendous side and so the German will want all of his available talent ready for the game. This is what you have a squad for, though, and Liverpool will be confident that Sturridge will be able to step handily into the breach if Mane does indeed miss out.
