Liverpool have not offered left back Andrew Robertson a fresh contract despite reports to the contrary, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The newspaper claims that no talks over an extension have taken place, and none are planned until at least the end of the season.

The Mirror reported recently that the Scotland captain was set to be offered a new deal that would double his money at Anfield.

However, with three and a half years remaining on his £50,000-per-week deal [Source: Spotrac], the Reds are in no rush to offer him fresh terms.

OPINION

There’s no surprise here really. Robertson still has a long time remaining on his current deal that he signed before the start of last season, so there’s no real reason to offer him a new contract just yet. Yes, he has become an integral member of this Liverpool team but he’s not the sort of character to kick up a fuss or demand a move away so it’s not as if he needs to be offered improved terms in order to appease him. He’s happy at the club and the club are certainly happy with him, there’s no reason to rock the boat at this moment in time. Perhaps in the summer or during next campaign he will be offered fresh terms once he’s closer to the expiration of his current contract, but right now it’s not something the Reds need to worry about. Robertson should simply concentrate on his football and the off the field stuff will take care of itself in due course.
