Michael Owen has predicted Liverpool to defeat Watford 2-1 when the two sides meet at Vicarage Road on Saturday.

The former Reds player described the Hornets as a funny side who could beat anyone on their day and noted that when the two met last season at Vicarage Road there was a lot of goals in that meeting.

Owen revealed that he thought Saturday’s fixture would be filled with goals once again but shared that be backed Jurgen Klopp’s side to get all three points as they continue compete for the Premier League crown.

“Watford are a funny team, they can beat anyone on their day and they’re having a really strong season,” said Owen in a video preview of the game for BetVictor on YouTube.

“Seventh in the league so far and this fixture last season produced a lot of goals and I think they’ll be a few again.

“Of course I’m going for a Liverpool win, they’re in decent form, fighting for that Premier League crown so I’m going to go for a 2-1 away win for the Reds.”

Owen expanded on his prediction in a blog post for BetVictor by firing warning at Liverpool by claiming that the Hornets would be a stiff test for their Premier League title bid.

“Liverpool have failed to concede more than once in their last 15 PL games and it is their improved defensive displays that have led to the Reds going unbeaten in their first dozen league games of the campaign,” wrote the BT Sport pundit.

“Watford have conceded 17 times in their last five winless games against Liverpool but they have improved this term, and this will be another stiff test of the Reds’ title credentials – an examination I expect they will pass in what promises to be a cracking game.”

OPINION

It’s no surprise that Owen has predicted a win for the Reds but perhaps more of one that he pointed out that Watford would be a stiff test for his former club’s title chances. While Watford are currently sat seventh in the league, they have showcased several weaknesses at times this season. Therefore it’s no guarantee that they will be able to push the Reds to their limits in order to see what Klopp’s side are really made of. After all the Hornets were hammered 4-0 by Bournemouth this season and lost to a struggling Newcastle United side. However maybe Owen is right to warn the Reds about Watford as they certainly have players capable of hurting Klopp’s team if they perform to their best. Saturday’s clash between the two sides will be an interesting affair but it will be a shock if the Reds don’t pick up all three points.
