COMMENTARY
Once Times journalist Paul Joyce revealed the mouthwatering clause in the deal regarding Barcelona’s purchase of Philippe Coutinho, Liverpool fans just couldn’t believe it. Several were astounded that sporting director Michael Edwards was able to get the Spanish giants to agree to a clause where they pay a premium price for Reds players until 2020, with one even claiming that it was wizardry. It’s easy to believe Joyce’s claim as well, as the trusted journalist is normally on the money when revealing what is happening behind the scenes at Anfield. While several opted to highlight Edwards’ involvement in getting such a clause agreed other supporters hilariously opted to dream big regarding players they wanted their club to sell. For example one suggested a £101million price tag for Alberto Moreno and if that occurred, then surely Edwards would have a statue outside Anfield in the near future. The Spanish left-back is easily perceived to be one of the weakest members of the Reds’ current squad due to his tendency to make costly blunders when playing, but thankfully he is rarely used.
