Former Reds player Karl-Heinz Riedle has claimed that Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita is one of the best midfielders to have ever played in Germany.

Liverpool signed the 23-year-old dazzler from RB Leipzig in the summer, and has since blown many away with how quickly he adapted to life in the Premier League – but he was overlooked to star in the 2-0 loss to Red Star Belgrade on Tuesday.

However, Riedle could not get enough of Keita, saying how much he is looking forward to seeing him impress on the pitch once again.

“I think he’s one of the best players we ever had in Germany in this position,” Riedle told beIN Sports on Tuesday night.

“In the beginning he was brilliant for Liverpool, so I’m looking forward to seeing him back on the pitch again.”

OPINION

Riedle is right to heap praise on Keita in the way that he has – he adapted to life in the Premier League like a duck to water, and he has since impressed many with his jaw-dropping ability. That ability was first evident in the season opener against West Ham, where many fans could not believe what they were watching. However, his progress has somewhat stalled, meaning that he has been overlooked for various fixtures in both the league and the Champions League. Yes, he has suffered with a back injury followed by a hamstring problem – but there is no doubt that he will be fighting fit once again and force his way back into the first team. He was an unused substitute in the Red Star clash, which is rather bizarre given the performances of Gini Wijnaldum and Adam Lallana – so there is a great chance that he will be considered to face Fulham at the weekend.
