Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler has outlined the one big problem that his old club faces at this moment in time.

The 43-year-old, who enjoyed two spells at Anfield in his playing days, believes that Manchester City are the biggest barrier to success for Jurgen Klopp’s side this season.

“I think Jurgen Klopp’s getting together a great, great squad but I think one of the problems we have is Manchester City are brilliant,” he told Sky Sports. “That’s one of the big problems. You can get a wonderful side put together but you’ve got to try and catch them and then hang onto their coat tails.

“As much as we talk about Liverpool being this unbelievable side who are easy on the eye and great to watch, there comes a time when you need to start winning stuff,” he finished.

Fowler is pretty on the money, here. City aren’t just a problem for Liverpool, of course, but for the whole of the Premier League – and European football as well. Pep Guardiola has marshalled an unbelievable team playing a beautiful style of football and, as Fowler says, it’s all about trying to keep up to pace with them at the moment. The reason why City are a bigger problem for Liverpool then everyone else, though, is because the Reds are expected to be the closest team to them this season, the ones challenging them for trophies in the domestic game. Klopp looks like he’s got a really top team assembled on Merseyside but whether it’ll be enough to topple City remains to be seen. Liverpool did have the upper hand on City in their head to head meetings last campaign, so it’s not unreasonable to expect them to beat out Guardiola’s side this term, but it’ll be incredibly tough to do so over a full season.
