A section of Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to destroy Trent Alexander-Arnold for his performance in the 1-1 draw with Arsenal on Saturday.

The Reds had a goal from Sadio Mane disallowed for offside in the first half after a surging run from Roberto Firmino, whilst Arsenal also had an effort ruled offside.

James Milner broke the deadlock in the second half from 11 yards out, but Alexander Lacazette salvaged a point for the Gunners just minutes from time.

Many Liverpool supporters were rather frustrated with the display of the young mainstay, with some comments including “worrying” and “having a torrid time”.

COMMENTARY

The youngster was definitely not at his best during this game, which is quite a surprise – he is usually very consistent, but tonight he must definitely was not. These fans seem to agree, with one fan even jokingly remarking that he has been “eaten alive” by the Arsenal attack. He did provide an excellent ball to set up the goal that was ruled out for offside, but apart from that, he really did struggle on Saturday. Another supporter described him as the “weakest link”, and it is rather hard not to agree with that verdict. This match was incredibly important in terms of the title race, and he somehow chose it to have an underwhelming game. He must do better – or Jurgen Klopp will not hold back in dropping him for their next fixture. Fans want to see a sprightly, energetic Alexander-Arnold who provides cross after cross – not one who looks lost.
