Paul Merson believes that Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey would be the perfect fit for Liverpool if they ended up signing him.

Sky Sports has reported that Ramsey is heading for an exit from the Emirates at the end of the season when his contract expires.

Merson says that the clash against the Gunners on Saturday will allow Ramsey to see just how good Liverpool are at the moment, who he reckons will be victorious in this clash.

“If Liverpool want him they might as well do a deal now. He would fit in there and he would help them challenge for the title,” Merson said in his Daily Star column.

“Manchester City are a much stronger, deeper team than Liverpool at the moment, but Ramsey could help change that.

“Whatever happens, he will get a chance to see how good Liverpool are today. I can’t see anything but a Liverpool win if I’m honest.”

OPINION

It is not surprising that Merson has made this transfer claim – Ramsey would improve Liverpool dramatically if they were to sign him. However, the Red have a lot of midfielders within their side, so it remains to be seen where the mainstay would fit in. Including him would mean that the likes of Jordan Henderson or Fabinho may be dropped to the bench, so signing him would essentially be pointless. Boss Jurgen Klopp has already stated that he will not sign anyone in January unless something bad happens, so a move for the Welshman has been effectively ruled out. Nevertheless, the transfer window always springs up a few surprises, so it would not be a shock if they contested for his services. Yes, he would be a good addition, there is no denying that – but Klopp needs to work out just how he would fit into the side in January.
