Liverpool attacker Bobby Adekanye is set to join Italian giants Lazio on a free transfer at the end of the season, according to GOAL.

The football news outlet claim that the 19-year-old winger’s agent Junior Minguella had successfully negotiated a pre-contract months ago for his client but the Reds have only recently been made aware that a deal has been agreed.

GOAL report that the Reds had been keen to extend Adekanye’s contract even though Minguella had proven to be frustrating during negotiations but that teenager had decided to let his current contract run down so that he can leave Anfield in the summer on free.

OPINION

This is a bit painful from a Reds perspective as you never wanted to see a talented player leave the club, especially for free. However the fact remains that Adekanye has chosen to leave and there’s not much Jurgen Klopp’s side can do if his mind is made up. The winger, who can also be deployed has an attacking midfielder, has been regularly featuring for the club’s U-23s this season but clearly feels he can do better elsewhere. Given that Lazio have acted quickly to put a deal on the table for him then it shows they might give him the first-team opportunities he no doubts craves. Lazio are a giant of Europe despite not covering themselves in glory in recent seasons as they have regularly kept competing in European tournaments one way or another. This season Lazio have made it to the last round of 32 in the Europa League and if they overcome Sevilla it will show that the club is moving in the right direction. While Adekanye could have potentially been a star at the Reds one day, you do hope his decision to leave works out for him.
