Liverpool midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain could return to training in March 2019, manager Jurgen Klopp has confirmed.

The ex-Arsenal star ruptured hisĀ anterior cruciate ligament last season during the Champions League semi-final against Roma, and is expected to return to training a lot sooner than expected after initially being ruled out for the whole of the current campaign with the injury.

Klopp was clearly delighted by Oxlade-Chamberlain’s recovery in the pre-match press conference ahead of the game against Arsenal.

“It is the best news. No pressure on him but maybe February back in normal training. Possibly March,” he said, as quoted by Times reporter Paul Joyce on his personal Twitter account.

OPINION

Wow – what a major this would be to Klopp if Oxlade-Chamberlain really did return to training in two to three months time. For a player who was initially ruled out for the entire season, the recovery he has made is remarkable and deserves to be applauded in itself. He was a key player for the Reds last season before he got injured, and he could be that player once again if he ends up making an appearance this season. It is a shame to see a talented player like him on the sidelines for so long, and this will have no doubt hampered his ability in some way. However, with a bit of reassurance and encouragement, he will find his feet in no time if he manages to get through training. Things seem to be going Liverpool’s way at the moment – so fingers crossed Oxlade-Chamberlain makes a swifty return to the pitch.
