beIN SPORTS pundit Andy Gray has warned Premier League leaders Liverpool that this season’s title race is far from over.

The Reds have enjoyed a tremendous festive period, profiting on a poor Manchester City run to move six points clear of Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the tree.

However, Gray was pragmatic about their chances: “Certainly Liverpool are in the boss seat, we know,” he told beIN SPORTS. “A six point lead over anyone at this stage is a lot. But we also know, having watched what’s happened to Manchester City over the last four games, that that lead can soon be eroded if something happens to their form.

“So for me right now there are three teams very much in the title race: Liverpool, must be favourites; Tottenham and Manchester City will chase them all the way. Liverpool could lose against Arsenal, lose against Manchester City and we’re back to square one again.”

OPINION

Gray makes a good point here. Having seen City fall back so dramatically in such a short period of time it would be foolish to think Liverpool are assured in their position at the top of the table. They have enjoyed a remarkable season so far but there’s a long way to go yet. Their upcoming games against Arsenal and Manchester City are massive, and they could easily lose to both those teams. That likely won’t happen but it’s very possible. You can’t discount Spurs, either, who are playing some wonderful football under one of the finest managers in the Premier League. Jurgen Klopp will know that the title’s not won until the trophy is in Jordan Henderson’s hands, but it will be hard for fans not to get carried away with where the Reds are at this moment in time. They simply don’t look like losing. However, Gray is correct, there’s a long way to go yet.
