OPINION

Liverpool attacker Sadio Mane had a positive first half on the most part against Arsenal on Saturday, so it’s quite a surprise to see him criticised by some of his own team’s fans in this way. He scored the Reds’ third goal but even that hasn’t been enough for him to escape the fans’ ire. This is merely a section of Liverpool fans, of course, but it’s still strange to see such a talented player being the target for criticism after a good first half performance. He did have a moment of madness when he put his hands around an Arsenal player’s neck, which on another day would have seen him dismissed. It was, strictly speaking, violent conduct and so he’s done well to avoid any punishment. He can still be frustrating at times with his occasional refusal to pass the ball, but on the whole his positives far outweigh his negatives and he should be praised by Liverpool fans not criticised.
