Jurgen Klopp will be able to welcome Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana back into his squad for the visit of Everton on Sunday, according to the Evening Standard.

The newspaper claims that the player returned to Reds training this week and is likely to command a place in the match day squad for the first Merseyside derby of the season.

The former Southampton man hasn’t appeared for Klopp’s team since the international break after suffering a minor muscle issue.

Attackers Divock Origi and Dominic Solanke are both doubts for Sunday’s game, with the two players missing Wednesday’s trip to Paris Saint-Germain through illness and a groin injury respectively.

OPINION

This is probably good news for Liverpool… right? In all honesty Lallana hasn’t been much of a factor this season and it’s doubtful that he’ll play any part in the derby on Sunday, excusing perhaps a late cameo off the bench. It’s a shame because the Englishman has always been a talented footballer but injuries seem to have ravaged him and he looks a shadow of the player he once was. Having said that, with captain Jordan Henderson suspended it’s good for Klopp to have another option in midfield, even if he’s unlikely to start. James Milner, Georginio Wijnaldum, Naby Keita, Xherdan Shaqiri and Fabinho should all be ahead of Lallana in the pecking order, but the midfielder does give the German another body in the middle of the park and in attack if needed. It would be nice for the 30-year-old to stay fit for an extended period of time and build his form back up, but the way this season is going it doesn’t look like that’s going to happen anytime soon.
